***NEEDS TO BE CHANGED***

My name is Danica Parkin and I grew up in the beautiful town of Revelstoke, B.C. which is well known for its ski hill, mountains, and number of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed throughout all seasons. I am the youngest in my family and have two older brothers, who are twins, and an older sister. Together we enjoy travelling, camping, spending time together, and anything that includes physical activity.

After completing high school, I spent six months in New Zealand where I worked and volunteered in as many child care centers as I could! I used these experiences to apply to the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program at Thompson Rivers University.

During the ECE Program, I knew I wanted to further my studies in the education field so I enrolled into the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) Program, where I completed my Infant Toddler Education Certificate and am currently about half way through finishing my BIS Degree.

Because I grew up in an active family, I enjoy leading an active life. I believe that the key to leading an active lifestyle is through engaging in opportunities to be active from a young age. As an Early Childhood Educator, I enjoy promoting physical activity to the other Educators, as well as the children I work with. Through my experience as an Educator I have noticed that there are a number of childcare centers and Educators that do not have the same philosophies as me regarding physical activity and children. I have also noticed that although the government requires Daily Physical Activity (DPA)  in Elementary and High schools, there is no policy or requirement for childcare centers.

Using the History4250, this semester I have researched the history of physical education in Canada. Doing this has furthered my understanding of how physical education started and how it has changed throughout the years while also helping me with my thesis to complete the BIS Program.
